Case Study

Conflicts Of Interest

John and Peter were closed friends since young, a couple of years ago both of them decided to start a partnership company offering website design services as a business. The business grew fast and from 2 men operation, it became a team of 18 staff in the first two years of the business. Very soon both partners have their own team managing different projects but then the business slowed down and some programmers resigned almost at the same time.

John heard rumours that Peter had started another partnership with another friend and all the resigned staff had joined that company. John called us to perform an investigation to find out the truth but making sure not to hurt the friendship with Peter.

Our Actions

We started our background checks and perform five days surveillance on Peter, we have gathered that Peter often goes to another office after his working hours and usually stayed there for 2 hours or so. The surveillance video was shown to John and he identified some people captured in the video were his ex-programmers.

The further investigation reviewed that Peter had been claiming the company for transportation and entertainment incurred on "so-called potential clients". John had suspected Peter should have taken company confidential data to his newly setup company, with the advice from John's lawyer, an Anton Piller Court Order (APO) was obtained, our digital forensics and investigation team were appointed to conduct search and seizure at Peter's residential and office to extract evidence that belonging to the company. A total of 5 hard drives, 4 thumb drives containing confidential data were found and presented to the court.
